Samsung SDI is in talks with several automakers for mass production of all-solid-state batteries in 2027.

"We can't disclose customer names, but we are currently in talks with several automakers about a 2027 volume production plan," said Sohn Michael, vice president and head of the strategic marketing team at Samsung SDI's medium and large battery division. The company's second quarter earnings were announced on a conference call on July 27.
Samsung SDI also mentioned the development of LFP batteries for low - and mid-priced cars. "Automakers are introducing a variety of electric vehicle models by market segment, including premium models, as well as traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, as part of their electrification strategy," Thorne said. "Therefore, car batteries also need to be segmented to deal with various platforms. We are actively promoting the development of nickel Manganese oxide (NMX) and LFP platforms to expand sales and entry markets."

"Regarding concerns that Samsung SDI may abandon its premium strategy, Samsung SDI will not do so. But we want to have a broad portfolio by ensuring quality NCA and high quality all-solid-state battery mass production NMX LFP technology."
